About Robert

Consultant, Policy Expert, and Educator

I transform lived experience into leadership, strategy, and systems change at the intersection of public health, human rights, and law.

My work focuses on addressing HIV criminalization, stigma, and misinformation, and on strengthening advocacy, leadership, and workforce capacity across public health, policy, and community-based organizations and networks.

Grounded in scientific evidence and lived expertise, I help organizations and institutions develop ethical, effective responses that advance equity, trust, and public health outcomes.

“I could not have imagined that the end of a consensual relationship would result in felony charges and jail time. That is exactly what happened to me because I’m living with HIV. My life would never be the same.”

My Lens: Public Health, Human Rights, and HIV Justice

My work integrates scientific evidence, lived experience, and equity-centered frameworks.

I am particularly focused on bridging the gap between science, lived experience, and policy- ensuring that public health responses are not only effective, but just.

I work across advocacy, clinical, academic, and policy spaces to translate research and global guidance into practical tools for education, policy reform, and community engagement.

Experience & Impact

My professional perspective has been shaped by more than two decades of lived and professional experience within the HIV epidemic, including navigating HIV-related stigma and criminalization in the Southern United States. Recognizing the disproportionate impact of HIV criminalization on marginalized communities, I co-founded The Sero Project to elevate the voices of people directly impacted and to strengthen advocacy and policy reform efforts nationally and globally.

Moving the Work Forward

Through my consulting, training, and speaking work, I partner with organizations and institutions committed to advancing more equitable, ethical, and effective public health and human rights responses.
